Johnny Zhang

An educator, writer and administrator, Johnny has an Master’s degree of linguistics and ESL teaching from China and began his career as a teacher of English at a university in China. He immigrated to Canada almost 3 decades ago, and started his new life by working and teaching in various positions at the unionized educational and the non-profit environment, including Toronto District School Board, the University of Toronto, George Brown College, Centennial College, Phoenix Academy of the Arts, Community MicroSkills Development Centre, and Mennonite New Life Centre of Toronto. He held a number of management and executive roles with responsibility for business administration, HR/ Employee Relations in a Unionized Environment, and Fundraising & Organizational Development and Finance & Audit expertise within the non-profit sector. He writes regularly for Canadian Immigrant (Magazine), whose mission is to help immigrants and newcomers to settle in Canada successfully.

Over the past 25 years, Johnny has also been actively involved in community services by volunteering for various non-profit community organizations with different roles. He is currently on the board of the Scarborough Arts as Vice Chair (& was former Treasurer).
