Immigrant Settlement and Adaptation Program

SAFSS offers the following services under ISAP

1. Reception and Welcome to Newcomers:

SAFSS has currently 7 ISAP Counsellors. Our Counsellors greet all newcomers when they come for services and make them comfortable and break the ice by asking questions informally about their family, how they feel in a new country like Canada.

2. Orientation:

All newcomers are given a brief orientation to Canadian society and culture depending upon their availability of time and needs.

3. Translation:

SAFSS provides linguistically and culturally appropriate services to newcomers and if necessary refer to other immigrant and community Service agencies for free translation services or provide translation services through volunteer interpreters.

4. Interpretation:

Interpretation services are provided to the newcomers in case of need of the newcomers through our volunteer interpreters.

5. Referral to community resources:

Our Counsellors refer to other service providers, community resources such as banks, shops/malls, health, cultural, recreational, educational and legal facilities and other service providers.

6. Solution focussed counselling:

Our Counsellors are professionally competent and trained to provide solution focussed counselling as per the client’s needs. They assist newcomers in several facets of life for faster settlement in a new country.

7. General information:

Our Counsellors provide information on problems of everyday living, interacting with the communities, information on their basic rights and duties, use of public transit, housing, health, education, transport, SIN, administrative system and other services. Counsellors also provide information on banking, day care, school registration, safety issues, police services and information as per client’s requirement.

8. Employment-related services:
